A botched repair is a services claim under the Consumer Rights Act 2015: the garage must perform the work with reasonable care and skill, and if it did not, you are entitled to the cost of putting it right. Claims of this kind at York County Court and Family Court are won with independent evidence.
The evidence that decides it
Get an independent garage's written diagnosis of what the first garage did wrong and what it costs to fix - one page is enough and it is the single most persuasive exhibit. Photograph the defect before any remedial work. Exhibit the invoice, the repair order, and every complaint exchange.
The claim structure
Particulars: when the car went in, what was asked, what was done, what went wrong, the CRA 2015 reliance, the remedial cost, and any consequential losses (hire car, lost earnings) you can document. The pre-claim letter gives the garage its statutory chance to remedy - garages that ignore it fare badly at York County Court and Family Court.
